Education Sponsorship Project

The sponsorship project primarily focuses on providing high school and university sponsorships for the bright and needy students from impoverished backgrounds in the slum.

Every year, the organization opens its gates to hundreds of families seeking education for their children. The project follows a merit-based selection process, selecting high-performing and high-potential students whose parents/guardians do not have the financial capability to pay for their high school. This ensures that only the neediest and most deserving students get the opportunity to be considered.

Having found the most deserving students, the sponsorship team embarks on a journey of finding individuals willing to and capable of sponsoring these students through high school. Our one student per family policy ensures we widen the scope of our reach and get to support as many families as possible though the gift of education.

Sponsorship covers students’ tuition fees, boarding facilities, meals, school uniforms, and stationery. Sponsors are entitled to termly correspondences from their sponsor student(s) and academic report cards to be abreast of their student’s progress academically and socially.

1

High potential, low-income students are selected for the program

Students are gifted academically and want to learn, but their families simply cannot afford the fees. These students come from extremely poor backgrounds and families with higher number of dependents.

2

Your donations fund quality schooling and career preparation

USD 750 per year pays for fees, boarding school facilities, and uniforms at respected schools across the country.

Additional USD 375 provides career mentoring, vocational digital skills,  afterschool science and math learning aids, holiday tuition and college guidance.

3

Graduating students perform 6-months of community service

Students are expected to give back to their community, and further contribute to the program. Community service is an opportunity for students to also give back after receiving so much from their sponsors.

4

Upon completion of community service, graduates can qualify for further sponsorship for university.

Students continue to volunteer throughout their university sponsorships. Students alternatively enroll in technical courses and continue to volunteer throughout the period of their vocational training.

5

Once employed, graduates adopt an incoming student to mentor and support their access to continued learning.

Our graduates work across all fields and have the responsibiity to come back and mentor another student or sponsor them through school.

6

Graduates break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families.

Living conditions are improved for the entire family, both economically, and through more informed decision-making on family and healthcare issues. Most of our graduates move their families out of Kibera upon getting their first job.

Holiday program and community service

Every school holiday, the sponsorship project runs holiday fellowships to develop the capacity of sponsored students through life skills mentorship, career guidance, and community service- the latter being an opportunity for the students to give back to their community after having received so much from their sponsors. The involvement through holiday fellowships provide a safe space for the students and protects them against negative influences such as drug-use and teenage pregnancy during schoo holidays. During this period students have access to breakfast and lunch, a luxury most cannot afford back at home in the slum.
